The Critical Practice Studio (CPS) is an ambitious postdisciplinary and bi-lingual intensive program conducted in both Arabic and/or English. The year-long pilot program unfolded into three sections: a reading week, a week-long hybrid residency that took place online and in Dheisheh, Palestine, and into an in-person exhibition of our participants’ projects titled translations / مشاع that took place in Berlin in January 2022. The CPS seeks to bring together students, scholars, artists, architects and activists from a local and trans-national network of institutions and communities both in Palestine and across the globe.
مشاع للممارسة الناقدة – برنامج أكاديمي معرِفي باللغتين العربية والانجليزية يؤمن بضرورة الممارسة التشاركية ويؤكد على أهمية التداخل بين التخصصات المختلفة. من المقرر أن يعقد البرنامج في شهر تمّوز من العام الحالي، وهو بمثابة فصل جامعي صيفي مكثّف يجمع ما بين النظرية والتطبيق. سوف يقيم المنتسبون الفلسطينيون في مخيم الدهيشة لمدّة اسبوع كامل، ويشاركهم منتسبون من مختلف دول العالم عبر الانترنت، بحيث يقومون معا بالعمل على مشاريع مختلفة على إن يتم عرض هذه المشاريع بمشاركة جميع المشاركين في شتاء العام القادم 2022 في برلين، ألمانيا.
تسعى “مشاع للممارسة الناقدة” إلى تهيئة مناخ يلتقي فيه الطلاب والباحثين والفنانين والمهندسين المعماريين والناشطين من مجتمعات ومؤسسات مختلفة فلسطينية وعالمية.

في بدايات القرن الرابع عشر “الإزالة أو الإزاحة من مكان الى آخر”، وأيضا: “الانتقال من لغة الى لغة أخرى” إن فعل الترجمة يتضمن فعل الانتقال، أي من مكان الى آخر. وعليه، فإن تقديم المكان واللغة كعنصران مترابطان يعني تسليط الضوء على “محدد”
Usually translation is associated to the Latin ‘translatio’ = to carry across/over. The term is also close to the meaning of the Greek “metaphora” (=transference, to carry across) but has a distinct sense to the extent that it is primarily associated to the passage of meaning from one language to another. Translation foregrounds place and language as interrelated matters that situate our linguistic vocabulary and epistemic horizon and thus shape the frame of reference within which our social, architectural, and political life and practices take place.

سوف يرتكز برنامج “مشاع للممارسة الناقدة” لهذا العام في مخيم الدهيشة للاجئين الفلسطينيين، وهو المكان الذي نمت في هذه الفكرة مكانيا وفكريا واخذت بعد عالمي. يقوم المشاركون والمنتسبون بالعمل على مشاريع متعددة تسلط الضوء أو ترتكز على مفهوم “الترجمة” وما له من أبعاد مختلفة في مجالات متنوعة سواء كانت أدبية، لغوية، معرفية، سياسية، معمارية أو فنية
Grounded in Dheisheh, but reaching across seas and rivers, the CPS provides a space for critical reflections on “translation” as a question that cuts across and undergird a wide range of realms: linguistic and literal, epistemic and representational, political and social, as well as architectural and artistic. Participants will be placed into small cluster groups of three students and one tutor each to locate, explore, and interrogate “translation” from within one of the clusters’ domains.
